Quads on Township Roads

Postby OntheBlvd » Thu Jun 23, 2005 9:38 pm

Are you seeing more quads running on township roads? I thought those machines were for use "off road". I'm seeing a fair number of them running on the roads in Newton, and in Ransom. Usually kids at the controls. What do you think?

I'm seeing them too. It has a lot to do with school being out I think.
The other day I saw one run the stop sign at the intersection of Newton Road and Laurel Hill. The kid just blew through the sign and went to the house right there. I called and left a message on Chief Reese's machine but haven't heard back from him.
These things need to be cracked down on before someone gets hurt.
If a driver hits one you know they, not the parents, will be found libel.
I have seen a whole line of them going down Bald Mountain Rd. They act as if they are driving licensed vehicles.
It's bad enough when they trespass, but now they are a road hazzard.

I ran into a couple of guys on ATVs yesterday over in Ransom, on Sekol avenue, where the power line runs.
They were on our property when I stopped them.
They said they were heading for the top of Bald Mountain to the peak.
I told them that the point and all the land around it is ours and off limits as well as the property they were on.
The one guy said he lives on Lisa Lane, so I asked him how he got from there to where he was now without using public roads.
He said he uses the power lines etc.
I told him the land under the lines, like the property we were on, is all private.
These guys were the exception to many I stop, in that they were civil. Most of them are agrresive and obnoxious.
Yet the fact remains, here is another person who lives on a lot less than an acre who owns an ATV and feels he can ride it wherever he pleases.

They're back. Quads on the roads. Not kids driving, but grown men with weapons dressed in camo. Is it the Newton Militia? Or just a bunch of hunters who don't want to walk to whre the game is? Certainly sets a bad example for the kids and is dangerous to boot. Quads don't belong on roads!

Theyr're probably hunters.
However, they should be wearing orange and the weapons cannot be loaded.
Odds are they are heading to someones land from whom they do not have permission to hunt.
In any event anyone riding a atv on public roads should have the machine impounded pending trial and upon being found guilty it should be forefit in lieu of a fine.
