Garbage pick-up

Postby red2137 » Tue Aug 23, 2005 10:10 pm

I have a washer to put out for disposal.  Can I put it out with my weekly trash or do I have to make special arrangements?  Also is there an additional charge for this item?

Hi - the best thing to do is call Waste Management first at their Dunmore office.  They are quite helpful.

Their phone # is 344-7812.

garbage

I called and was told there would be an additional charge.  When Newton Twp. contracted with Waste Management I was told we could put anything out for pick up except paint and tires.  I assumed the $59.10 per quarter covered everything.  Why the sudden charge for appliances?

I also thought there would be no extra charge for appliances under the contract.

Sal or DavidK - can you help?  I thought a copy of the garbage contract was posted on this site someplace but I couldn't find it (then again, there are days I can't remember where I left my truck).

Thanks.....

It was my understanding that WM would take all trash.  I did not see anything in the contract that says there is an additional charge for appliances and I have not heard of anyone having a problem putting out appliances.

A copy of the contract is available on the main page under Public Records.

You may have spoken with someone at WM that is not familiar with the contract.  I would suggest putting it out for pickup and if you have any problems with them not taking it; contact Francine Miller at the township building.

Please keep us posted and let us know how you make out.

As Sal said, go to the home page and click on Public Records and scroll down to the Garbage Ordinance section and click on the Ordinance PDF.  You will see a lot of legalize mumbo-jumbo and CYA stuff but on page 14 - Section D Exonerations, under item # 2 it appears to say that bulky waste may be disposed at no charge.  Bulk waste is further defined on page 8 under item 5 to include appliances.

You would have thought the Township Supervisors would have sent an English language summary to all the residents.

I don't think there is a charge and I have seen my neighbors put appliances and just about everything else out for pick up without a problem.

One note: for those appliances containing Freon - it must be removed properly by a certified technician and a tag must be affixed to the appliance when it is placed out for pick up.

Let us know how you make out.

:D
Thanks Joe.
I too remember the "selling point" about free appliance pick up, with the standard freon caveat.
Now if WM could find it in their hearts to stop and pick up the range that has been dumped at the edge of the woods on Bald Mounatin Road near the township line......
