information on the new garbage deal??

Postby rosy » Fri Jan 16, 2009 5:58 pm

Does anyone have any information on the new garbage deal? i just found out we are not using waste management as of December 31st. Any information on cost and details of what it covers? are we being "forced" to carry this company like we were with waste management? Any info is greatly appreciated.....[/b]

I have asked but got no response.

One of the major beefs I and others have with the current and past Township Supervisors is their total lack of ability to communicate effectively with the residents of Newton.  Furthermore, they cannot grasp the simplest forms of communication (like a mass mailing) either because they are inept or they don't give a damn or both.

The last mass mailing to the residents was over 5 years ago with the last garbage contract debacle.  The whole sordid affair is well documented on this site.

The Supervisors finally had someone set up a "Township" web site where the minutes of the meetings and other information is posted but those minutes are usually a month or more behind.  I suspect the Township's legal mouthpiece has to sign off on them first.  Plus the minutes contain acronyms and abbreviations that most of us have no idea what they mean.  In other words, the minutes are written for only the supervisors to understand, not the residents.

The Township's web site, while good in principal, does not address or help those who do not have access to the Internet or have no idea it exists.  The site does have an Email option and I did Email my concerns and questions (over the new surprise garbage contract) on their site over a week ago but got no response.  What good is it if no one in the Township reads their Email?  Maybe they don't know what Email is yet.  Or perhaps they hope I go away.  Or perhaps they only recognize questions only from those who come to the meeting??

If any business organization was run like these guys run it, they would be fired.  This is one group where a communications consultant is sorely needed.

garbage deal

Postby rosy » Tue Jan 20, 2009 9:39 am

I called and asked if anything was going to be  mailed out to inform the people and was told no. i also went to the "Township" web-site, and there is no information there on the new deal. I asked what the new deal would cost us and it's 88 dollars, isn't that even more than waste management was? I also asked if we are being "forced" to use this company like we were the last one....yes....we are.....

Hi Rosy, I waited several days before responding to your post to see if anyone else would jump in, but as you can see - there is only the silence of the lambs.  No one seems to be to upset or concerned with the open arrogance of the Township supervisors so why should we care if they treat us like peasants in their fields?  They have not even acknowledged my Email.

I thought we had a great grassroots movement here but idealism is always tough to turn into reality.  Plus I guess no one cares that we will be paying a lot more for garbage services (without even the courtesy of an explanation from the gang of three) during these tough economic times.   Time to move on.  I'm afraid (and regret) this site is no longer an effective voice for the people of Newton.
