M2,
From my experience there is, or was, at least one group of organized snowmobilers in the area who went all over. A member contacted us about crossing a parcel of land we had just added to the sanctuary and we told them it was strictly off limits.
While we still have people trespassing since talking with that individual it is not as bad.
You may want to contact Joe Sibio who at that time was involved with the group. I do not know if he still is and even if he's not he may be able to put you in touch with someone you can talk to about the problem.

As Thanksgiving approaches it is also time to refresh the Posted signs.
Snowmobilers and hunters think the pipeline running through Newton is public property. Is isn't, it runs through private property.
Admittedly, the hunters, for the most part, over the past few years have observed my posted signs and we appreciate that. But the snowmobilers either can't read or they think Private Property or Posted signs don't apply to them. Since they usually come through after dark, it is hard to get a description or local law enforcement on the scene.

on my property there hasnt been a problem with snowmobilers, but there are trails that connect all the way through the woods and the area and im sure that sooner or later i will get some unwelcome visitors.
there was afew people who rode quads through my woods in the summer, but i put up a few barriers (just small logs and brush) and it stopped right away. maybe il have the same luck this winter.
snowmobiles, quads, ect.

Usually the people who own them are the people with the "big 1.9 acres". Where do the parents think their kids are going to ride them?

Ed,
I asked this same question of the mother of a kid who lives next to the radio station in Ransom. He was found riding down our driveway, after cuttinng through our woods and fields, and had no idea where he was until he called home.
The mother said that he rides on the trails through the woods.
She didn't answer the question of who she thought owned those woods and related properties.
That's the core of the problem, too many people think open land is just that open: to the public.
We rural land owners need to file charges against as many of these people as we can. After all if we were to walk through their urban yard they would file agianst us.
