Problems with Frontier DSL?

Postby davidk » Thu Aug 30, 2012 4:38 pm

Is anyone else having problems with Frontiers DSL system? My connection keeps cutting out randomly and sometimes several times in a short period. The it will be fine for hours or even days. It happens day and night with no real warning.
I know it is because the lines are mid 20th century, at best. They have not been replaced since I have lived here and that is over 30 years.
Yet they are trying to put 2012 tech through them without updating. Yet they still charge a premium price.
We can't even change companies as they would be forced to use the same obsolete lines we have now.
I just called Frontier and told them all this. Not that it will make a difference.
This is why Frontier is listed second from the bottom by Consumer Reports and the one on the bottom I had never heard of before!

David,

I had the same problem that you described a few years ago but the problem was not the wiring it was an old Epix/Frontier modem.

The repair person gave me a new modem and a free spare (both were free) because he said their modems are not that great.  So far, everything is fine.

If you are having problems, check the details.  It is unlikely that the line itself is the problem.

Bandwidth can generally get through but modems, routers and other devices that are not functioning properly can cause problems.
