New perc site requirement for new subdivisions

Newton now requires two perc sites for all new subdivisions. In the past only one perc site was necessary for a single sand mound. Now, every new subdivision will require a second perc site to allow for a replacement sand mound to be built when the initial one fails.

This seems sensible

Other areas I am familiar with have required this for years. Is this a problem or did you just post as info?

I think Dave was just posting the information because it is a new ordinance in Newton Township.

The problem with having only one site is that when the sand mound system fails and there is no alternate site it is difficult to correct.

The new ordinance will create problems for new subdivisions.  Minimum lot size is 40,000 Sq. Ft. and it is difficult enough to find one suitable site, finding two will be next to impossible in most cases.

I was just posting as info. The change was not well publicized as I saw nothing in the local papers.
