10/11 meeting summary

Postby davidk » Mon Oct 11, 2004 10:49 pm

The township meeting was very well attended tonight. Mainly by a group of residents concerned about the tar and chipping of the roads in their developments.
They appeared to express their dissatisfaction with the loose stone, dust and other concerns. They are also worried about the fact that their children cannot play on the streets and that thye may be injured if they do.
There were also complaints about having to rake the loose stones from their lawns come spring after the plows are done for the season.
The residents did not like the fact that they were not notified about the proposal.
After much discussion and suggestions by both sides the Supervisors agreed to look into leasing a machine that would essentially clean up the loose stones and allow them to be used elsewhere.

The township has apparently reached an agreement with South Abington Township to provide part time police coverage. This issue has been in the works for many months and what initially was an informal agreement has become a formal contract.

The Rec Center is seeking volunteers to help with the construction of the playground equipment. The Abington Rotary will be at the center on Saturday the 23 to set up the equipment. Anyone else who is interested in participating is welcome to join. The rain date is scheduled for the 30th.

The appointment of a new Supervisor is still in progress. There was a draft petition to County Court presented tonight by the township solicitor which was approved.
There is no real idea as to how the situation progresses once the matter is in the court. Research by the solicitor shows it is such an uncommon occurence there is no standing cases to go by. The laws have been changed since the situation last occurred. Essentially Newton will be setting precedent.
When the situation will be finalized is unknown.

I think the people should have more say.

It should not be left to the supervisors to make the choice as to who becomes a supervisor.  The town's people that show up for the meeting should be able to vote for the person that they want along with the supervisors and that person gets the job.  That way it would not be up to a judge to appoint a supervisor.

The most important thing is that this would have never happen if we did not have five supervisors to begin with.  We need to go back to three.
