The July meeting was a bit of a snoozer, even by Newton standards.
There was some discussion about speeding and running of the stop sign on West Grove and Gravel Pond roads.
There were people from Orchard Drive asking that their road be paved.
The specs are still not in on the roads so the bids will not even go out till at least next month which means no paving until at least late August.
The only real action of the evening was a long discussion, between Supervisor Shaffer and Sue Sherman of the Rec Committee.
This is an old issue which had been quiet for some time.
It centers around money the Rec Com. feels it is owed from years ago when their money market funds (from fund raisers and other sources) was mingled with the townships general fund and the money the then supervisors dedicated to the center.
Due to some confusion in the handling of the books back then there is a dispute as to exactly how much money the center is owed. There is also a question as to whether the committe was granted permission to keep any of the money dedicated that they did not spend and were allowed to hold it over to the next year.
Both Shaffer and Sherman have run the figures several times and cannot agree on a figure.
The issue is now dormant again till the budget is worked on again in the fall. Then it will be determined how much the center is owed and how the money will be budgeted.
In other rec news the under five year olds playground equipment is being assembled and the whole field project is moving along.
The planning committee will be looking at updates to the townships sewer ordinances in order to bring them up to date with new innovations and allowances by the state.
