Supervisor opening

Postby davidk » Mon Sep 13, 2004 9:54 pm

There is an opening on the board due to the resignation of TJ Kerrigan.
The position is basically from the end of this month till the end of next year.
Next year being a municiple year there will be an election to fill the remainder of the unexpired term. That would be till the end of 2007.
This is pending the outcome of the referendum on November 2. If the issue passes then the remainder of the term is void.
Anyone interested in the seat is asked to send a letter to the township by September 27. You should state briefly why you are interested and what you believe your qualifications are. A determination will be made that night at 7:30 pm by the board.
Should the board not come to a determination then the Vacancy Board will take control and have 15 days to make a decision.
The Vacancy Borad is made up of the remaining supervisors and Ron Koldjeski who is essentially the tie breaker.
If for some reason the VB cannot make a decision then the matter goes to the Court of Common Pleas.

Dave,

You demonstrated to everyone on this website that you would make a great supervisor.  You have been regurly-attending meetings for a long time.  You have experience with the zoning board.  You communicate with people and care about them.  You keep us informed of meetings and as a supervisor I am sure that you will make more information available to everyone.  As a supervisor, you could help reduce the board to three and do a great service to the community.

Would it help if we sent letters recommending you for the seat?

The remaining Suprevisors failed to reach a majority on who should fill the seat.
There were five applicants, of which only three attended the meeting. By failing to show the two were essentially disqualified.
After a slow start a nomination was finally made by Jamison for Ron Koldjeski. It was seconded by Martenson.
Shaffer then nonimated me and Pardue nominated Ken Lowe.
There was some discussion amongst the board as well as comments from several residents in the audience.
The vote was taken on Koldjeski and it was just Jamison and Maretenson in favor. That essentially ended the matter for the evening.
The Vacancy Board now has to meet within fifteen days to try again to fill the spot.
The problem is that Ron Koldjeski is the Vacancy Board Chair and cannot vote for himself. There is the question of whether he can even chair the meeting as he has an application in which casues a conflict of interest. It's being investigated by the township solicitor.
Worst case scenario is that the VB fails to reach an agreement and the matter then goes to the County Court of Common Pleas.

The supervisor situation is still unsettled.
Currently the township solicitor is preparing a petition to county court so that a judge can issue a decision as to who will fill out the term. A draft of the petition will be presented at the regular township meeting on the 11th.
Though it cannot be filed until the 18th as that is when the time for the Vacancy Board to meet will have run out.
From there it's uncertain what will happen. Stay tuned!

I posted this under another topic but I think it needs to be said here.

I think the people should have more say.

It should not be left to the supervisors to make the choice as to who becomes a supervisor. The town's people that show up for the meeting should be able to vote for the person that they want along with the supervisors and that person gets the job. That way it would not be up to a judge to appoint a supervisor.

The most important thing is that this would have never happen if we did not have five supervisors to begin with. We need to go back to three.

Judge Nealon will be handling the supervisor replacement.
The matter is scheduled for November 4 at 10:00 am in courtroom 1.
Applicants are to have a letter with bio and other experience in by then.

:?:
The hearing was held this morning and the issue is now in the hands of Judge Nealon.
Everything went well. Two supervisors appeared as well as the three applicants for the position.
Basically the judge went over the whole situation, including the history of the expansion and the referendum.
He asked the applicants to make comments and state what they felt the most important issues were in the township.
As soon as I hear anything I will post it here. The decision is supposed to be in by Monday so the new member can take the seat for the regular monthly meeting. That is so long as he is sworn in.
