Newton Burning Ordinance

Postby Sal » Tue Sep 25, 2012 8:20 pm

Newton Township has been working on this ordinance for a long time so it should be a doozy.

A few months ago, I asked what the purpose of the ordinance was and all I got back was that there are laws against burning trash, which tells you nothing.  There are laws against burning certain types of trash but not all trash.

Putting together a burning ordinance is not that difficult but the first thing you need to do is define what you are trying to accomplish.

Most of the township is rural and our local lawmakers should be straight forward with us as to what they want to accomplish with an ordinance.  We should be part of the process instead of giving us a 30-day notice and causing a ruckus like they did with the drilling ordinance.

At the September supervisors meeting there was a minor spat between two people. One snapped what are you burning in that wood burner and the other said none of your business and I am thinking here we go, burning ordinance.

The ordinance will give people something to fight over and the township will be caught in the middle.

I wish I could tell you more about the burning ordinance, but obviously, they don’t want me to know because they know I will tell you.
